In-Person State Testing

State testing begins in April and goes through the whole month. As noted in our school handbook on page 15,, all students at GLLA are required to participate in state testing. Public schools are required by state and federal law to administer state standardized tests to students in specific grades or courses. Currently, this includes the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) for grades 6-8, PSAT in grades 8-10 and M-STEP, SAT and ACT WorkKeys in grade 11. Although we are a virtual school, we are still required to proctor certain tests in person. 

​Caretakers and students will receive communications about each student's required testing dates and assigned locations. Some students may need to attend multiple dates, depending on which tests they need to complete. If you are unsure about testing dates or location please contact the homeroom teacher for help. 
Mandatory State Tests: 

• Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (MSTEP) for grades 6-7
• Michigan’s alternate assessment system (Mi-Access) for students with IEP’s (Individualized Education Plans) 
• Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) for students in grades 8-10
• ACT WorkKeys

Makeup Dates:
There will be minimal makeup dates available for each test in April and early May however they will only be available at limited locations so it is important to do your best to make it to your assigned testing date and location.

Testing tips: 

• Ensure that you have transportation to and from your testing site. Talk with your caretaker ahead of time to make sure you make arrangements beforehand. 
• Arrive early to find your room! Some testing locations are on college campuses or are in bigger facilities with other events being held, so it is important that you arrive early to ensure that you are ready for your test! 
• Get enough sleep the night before! Sleep helps you improve your concentration, alertness and even your mood. 
• Eat a healthy breakfast to support improved brain function, memory and attention!
